CHICAGO, IL, February 14, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- What does Hanna Mar have in common with Michael Jordan? They are both great athletes that are accustomed to losing big games. I can still recall the disappointment that blanked Chicago when Michael Jordan and the Bulls faced the Detroit Pistons in the 1990 Eastern Conference Finals. The Bulls were served a third consecutive defeat in the playoffs to the Pistons. The following year, Jordan led the Bulls to victory leaving the Pistons as casualties, in a sweep en route to the team's first NBA title.
This past weekend Hanna Mar lost in the finals of the girls 18's at the 6th Annual K-Swiss Junior Tennis Championships in Aurora, Illinois. She lost 6-2; 6-4 to the number two-seeded player, Rachael Z. White, of Deerfield, Illinois. This is not an attempt to take any credit away from White's victory, however, one cannot ignore the fact that her opponent was not running on a full tank. Prior to the match Hanna Mar played a 3-hour battle with Misia Krasowski (the number sixth seed) of Bannockburn, Illinois, just an hour or so earlier. Hanna was down 5-3 in the third set and down 40-Love in the game. The battle seemed all but over, even Hanna's mother whispered, "I believe it's over." This was the moment a champion emerged. Hanna didn't just come back and win the game, but she won the set and the match 4-6; 7-6(3); 7-5.
Hanna is currently ranked #2 in the nation in Girls 18's by the United States Tennis Association. This past December she captured the prestigious Girl's 18's USTA Winter National Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona. Hanna is coached by Marcy Hendricks of Score Tennis and Fitness Club in Countryside, Illinois. Marcy has coached Hanna since the age of six and the chemistry between the two of them is obvious. They seemed more like best friends - definitely not your average player/coaches' relationship. In August 2008, Hanna was diagnosed with a heart condition and had to undergo surgery. Though the procedure was minor, she was forced to miss the whole fall season while recovering. Every junior tennis player would love to play with her new heart, which she has a lot of. Losing seems to bring out the best in true champions, I remember reading somewhere, that Michael spent the whole summer training, getting stronger, getting faster and spent more time in the gym shooting baskets after the Bulls lost to the Pistons. Although Hanna lost in the finals, she showcased to her audience during the semifinal that she is a true champion.
"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career, and I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over in my life. And that's why I succeed!" - Michael Jordan

Hanna has all the weapons to play at the pro level - she has a monster serve, a James Blake forehand, Justine Henin's backhand slice and volleys, and she moves around the court like Kim Clijsters. Hanna is the daughter of Kevin and Maxine Mar of Burr Ridge, Illinois. Hanna Mar is a tennis sensation to keep your eye on.
